Messages sometimes display with broken fonts, odd colours, or messy spacing — usually from copied or richly formatted text. This guide shows how to switch formats and strip out unwanted styling.
Step 1 — Switch between HTML and plain text
Click the HTML toggle (blue) at the bottom-right of the toolbar to switch a reply to plain text. Plain text removes fonts, colours, and layout, leaving just the words.

Step 2 — Clear unwanted formatting
Select the affected text, then click Remove Formatting (orange) in the toolbar to strip out fonts, colours, and styles while keeping the text.

Step 3 — Set your default format
Go to Settings > Message Composing and set your Format Mode (blue) to control whether new messages start as HTML or plain text by default.
